Pregnant During The HolidaysHolidays can be very stressful for any person and especially so for the pregnant mom. Holidays are meant to be enjoyed, so if you are pregnant here are five things you can do to ease the stress during this time: ACTIVITIES Holidays normally bring all sorts of invitations to parties and gatherings. Pick and choose which ones you will attend, keeping in mind that you probably tire easier than usual. Choose the ones that you feel will be easiest on you and don’t feel badly about not accepting all invitations. When declining invitations, simply explain it is because you are pregnant need more rest. PLAN Have a pocket or electronic planner handy to keep up with the busy schedule of the holidays – marking down all your appointments, parties, etc. This will prove to be a great stress reducer to simply pull out the planner in a moment’s notice to check on planned activities—the “what and when” of your daily life. PLACES Often the holidays bring with it the stress of figuring out where to spend them. Will it be at home? At your parents’ or his?? On a vacation? Make sure that you plan accordingly based on how far along you are in your pregnancy. The last trimester means you should stay home (or at the very least not travel long distances). ASK FOR HELP Do not be afraid to delegate responsibilities to others, especially if the holidays are to be spent at your home. delegate the cleaning, cooking and childcare to others in your network of friends and family. Most of the time people are very happy to help out – you just need to ask for it! SHOPPING Shopping during the holidays can be a lot of fun, but it can also be very exhausting for a pregnant mom. Pace your shopping if you feel you must get out. Otherwise take advantage of the many online retail sites and let your fingers do the shopping. Use these suggestions wisely through the holidays. The most important thing to remember is to NOT allow stress to get the best of you. Pace yourself and get plenty of rest. The world will not fall apart if you aren’t on top of it all the time.
